Upcoming Cataract Surgery at Herona Community Hospital

Herona Community Hospital is pleased to announce an upcoming cataract surgery camp scheduled for 25th September 2026, as part of our ongoing commitment to restoring sight and improving the quality of life for our communities.

This highly anticipated surgical initiative will be led by Dr. Susan Kikira, a Senior Consultant Ophthalmologist renowned for her expertise and dedication to advancing eye care services in Uganda. Working alongside the Herona medical team, Dr. Kikira will spearhead the delivery of safe, high-quality cataract surgeries to patients in need.

The camp is made possible through the generous support of IMET2000, whose continued partnership has significantly strengthened our capacity to provide specialized ophthalmology services. Their unwavering support has enabled us to reach vulnerable populations who would otherwise have limited access to such life-changing procedures.

Cataracts remain a leading cause of blindness in Uganda, affecting thousands of individuals, especially the elderly. Many patients live with impaired vision due to lack of access to timely surgical care. This upcoming camp aims to address this challenge by providing accessible and effective treatment to restore vision.

Patients diagnosed with cataracts during previous screenings and outreach programs are encouraged to attend, and new patients are welcome for assessment and possible surgical intervention.

At Herona Community Hospital, we believe that no one should live in darkness due to preventable blindness. Through partnerships and dedicated service, we continue to bring hope and healing to our communities.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Dr. Susan Kikira for her continued leadership and to IMET2000 for their invaluable support in making this initiative possible.
