Herona Specialists Awarded Advanced Robotic & Laparoscopic Surgical Training Opportunity in Chicago

Herona Community Hospital is proud to announce an exciting milestone in its journey toward becoming a center of excellence in surgical care. Three of our dedicated specialists have been awarded a fully sponsored opportunity to travel to the United States and participate in a two-week Dr. Sims Surgical Skills Training Program at the Centre for Global Health, University of Illinois Chicago.

This prestigious program will focus on advanced robotic and laparoscopic (minimally invasive) surgical techniques, equipping our specialists with cutting-edge skills that are transforming modern surgery worldwide. The training will be conducted under the guidance of leading experts and will include intensive hands-on sessions, simulation-based learning, and exposure to state-of-the-art surgical technologies.

All expenses for the program—including international flights, accommodation, and training—have been generously covered by the institute, reflecting a strong commitment to global health partnerships and capacity building.

This opportunity comes at a pivotal time as Herona Community Hospital continues to strengthen its vision of developing into a centre of excellence for surgical services. The knowledge and experience gained through this program will significantly enhance the hospital’s ability to provide safer, more efficient, and less invasive surgical care to patients in Uganda and beyond.
