1MET 2000 Donates Brand New Auto Refractor with Built-in Keratometer to Herona Community Hospital, Kisoga

Herona Community Hospital, Kisoga, is pleased to announce the receipt of a brand new Auto Refractor with a built-in Keratometer, generously donated by 1MET 2000. This vital donation comes at a critical time and marks a major improvement in the hospital’s eye care and cataract surgical services.

For many years, the hospital relied on an older auto refractor that frequently broke down, causing delays in eye examinations and cataract surgical preparation. The new, modern equipment will now ensure reliable, accurate, and timely eye assessments, greatly easing cataract surgical care and improving surgical outcomes for patients.

The Auto Refractor with Keratometer enables precise measurement of refractive errors and corneal curvature, which is essential for proper cataract surgery planning and post-operative care. With this advanced technology, patients will experience reduced waiting times, improved accuracy in diagnosis, and better quality eye care services.

This equipment will serve patients from four districts—Mukono, Buikwe, Kayunga, and surrounding communities along the shores of Lake Victoria. Herona Community Hospital’s primary catchment area is Mukono South Constituency, covering rural and peri-urban populations. The new equipment is expected to benefit an estimated population of over 2 million people, including elderly persons, fisher folk communities, and vulnerable groups who often face barriers to accessing specialized eye care.

Herona Community Hospital extends special appreciation to Mr. John Richard Field, MBE, the IMET Representative in Africa, for his unwavering support and commitment to improving eye care services across the region. His partnership and dedication, together with the support of 1MET 2000, have made this life-changing contribution possible.

We sincerely thank IMET 2000 for standing with Herona Community Hospital in advancing quality, affordable, and accessible eye care. This donation strengthens our mission to restore sight, reduce preventable blindness, and improve the quality of life for the communities we serve
