On October 12, 2025, Herona Community Hospital in Kisoga, Mukono, successfully conducted a series of free cataract surgeries aimed at restoring sight and improving the quality of life for individuals affected by cataract-related blindness. The initiative was led by Consultant Ophthalmologist Dr. Susan Kikira and supported by the IMET team.

The surgical camp brought together a dedicated team of eye specialists, nurses, and support staff who worked tirelessly to ensure that patients received high-quality care. Beneficiaries were carefully screened prior to surgery, and those diagnosed with operable cataracts underwent successful procedures under sterile and safe conditions.

The IMET team provided essential technical and logistical support, contributing equipment, surgical supplies, and expertise that made the outreach possible. Their collaboration with Herona Community Hospital demonstrated a strong commitment to community health and the fight against preventable blindness.

Patients expressed immense gratitude for the opportunity to regain their vision, many of them seeing clearly for the first time in years. The event not only restored sight but also renewed hope and independence for numerous individuals and families within the Mukono community.
